Mix Media on Canvas
Tony “Tazo17” Gonzalez is a late bloomer in the art world only having picked up a brush in 2014 at the age of 45. Self-trained in the arts, he originates as a serial entrepreneur whose business interests span various industries, encompassing Global Tire Distribution, Real Estate, Construction, Banking, Apparel, Music and Film. Incredibly, he was diagnosed, from a very young age, as being color blind. “I believe the fact I don’t see colors like most people is what makes my work interesting, as counter-intuitive as that sounds, I paint the color combinations and tones that please my sight and I try to find balance and harmony in doing so. I use my life experiences as an inspiration while I create, I take my time to make sure the work emanates the right energy”.
In 2014 Gonzalez founded Rock the Moon Productions, a multimedia creative outlet that serves as a record label and developmental agency. RTMP’s roster includes GRAMMY and Latin GRAMMY nominated Locos por Juana, Cuban rap icon and two-time Latin GRAMMY nominee, El B, musical legend and Latin GRAMMY nominee, Tomas Diaz. Tony is also a songwriter and has had multiple songs recorded by various artists. 2014 also saw Gonzalez sign on as Executive Producer of the documentary film, The U Reloaded. In 2015, Tony executive produced El Mar y El (The Sea and Him), a film based on the 1980 Mariel boatlift. El Mar y El won various awards at prestigious film festivals and premiered on HBO and is currently playing on PBS.
In 2016 Gonzalez, and partner, Jose Daniel Freixas, founded Exilium Media, LLC, a multimedia production company dedicated to film and TV. The first deal for this venture teamed Gonzalez and Freixas with Paramount Pictures and Leonardo DiCaprio’s production company, Appian Way, to produce a film based on The New York Times' bestselling author, T.J. English's book, The Corporation: An Epic Story of the Cuban American Underworld. Academy Award winner Benicio del Toro will star as Cuban mob boss, Jose Miguel Battle Sr.
Gonzalez and Friexas also co-wrote and produced a feature film entitled Vandal in late 2016. Vandal is about the young leader of a legendary Miami graffiti crew who comes of age while battling a longtime rival. As a result of his involvement in this art focused film Tazo17 was born in 2014.
Tazo17 has created hundreds of works since then and has placed many works with private art collectors. Tazo17 inspires others with his, “it’s never too late” message and you should always allow a new passion to flow through you.
Tazo17 has a wide-ranging style and is constantly challenging himself by using new mediums in his works. He has also collaborated with world renowned fine artist, painter Garsot (Sotirios Gardiakos) for over 3 years.
